# Sign in

> Create a GPU Outlet account or log in with a one-time email code, Google or GitHub, without a password.

GPU Outlet has no passwords. You prove you own an email address with a one-time code, or you sign in with Google or GitHub.

## Sign up or log in

The sign-in page has two tabs, **Sign up** and **Log in**. Pick the one that matches your situation.

| You want to | Use | You enter |
| - | - | - |
| Create an account | **Sign up** | First name, last name and email |
| Return to an existing account | **Log in** | Your email |

First and last name each take 1 to 80 characters.

The tabs are strict about which one you use:

* Signing up with an address that already has an account shows "This email is already registered. Log in instead."
* Logging in with an address that has no account shows "No account with that email. Sign up first."

## Sign in with an email code

<Steps>
  <Step title="Request a code">
    Fill in the form and press **Send verification code**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check your email">
    You receive an email with a 6-digit code. The subject line starts with the code.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the code">
    Type the code on the **Check your email** screen. If you typed the wrong address, press **Use a different email**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Each code:

* is valid for 10 minutes;
* allows 5 attempts;
* works once.

If the code does not arrive, press **Resend code** under **Didn't get it?**. The button shows a short countdown ("Resend in Ns") before you can press it again.

<Note>
  If you request many codes for the same address, resending is paused for a while. The message tells you how long to wait when it can. Wait for the pause to end rather than pressing the button again.
</Note>

## Sign in with Google or GitHub

Press **Google** or **GitHub** on the sign-in page. GPU Outlet uses the verified email address of that account. If no GPU Outlet account uses that address yet, one is created for you.

If the provider does not share a verified email, you see "We couldn't read a verified email from that account." Use the email code instead.

## Your first sign-in

A new account goes through a short setup. You can leave it at any time with **Skip setup**.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Account Type">
    **What brings you here?** Choose **Buy capacity**, **Sell capacity** or **Both**. This only decides which side of the dashboard opens first. You can press **Skip for now**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Company Details">
    **Your company**: enter the registered legal name, the country of registration and, optionally, the corporate domain. See [Company](/account/company).

    If someone invited you, this step reads **Join \<company>** instead. Press **Join \<company>** to become a member, or **Not now**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Invite team members (optional)">
    **Invite Team Member**: enter a colleague's email and role, then press **Send invite and continue**. See [Team and roles](/account/team-and-roles).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Additional Security (optional)">
    **Protect the account**: scan the QR code with an authenticator app, enter the six digits and press **Turn on and finish**. See [Two-factor authentication](/account/two-factor).
  </Step>
</Steps>

After setup, the **Account ready** screen opens. Press **Skip to dashboard** to go straight in.

We also send a "Welcome to GPU Outlet" email when your account is created.

## The Buy/Sell switch

One account and one company can both buy and sell. The **Buy**/**Sell** switch in the dashboard changes the menu you see. It does not change your account or your company.

| Menu | Items |
| - | - |
| Buy | Radar, Requests, Introductions, Documents, Company, Settings |
| Sell | My Listings, Opportunities, Finances, Documents, Company, Settings |

## How long you stay signed in

A session lasts 30 days. After that, sign in again with a new code or with Google or GitHub.

Signing in never asks for your second factor. You are asked for it only when you sign an agreement, or when you change the legal name or country of a company that has signed one. See [Two-factor authentication](/account/two-factor).
